Primitive This was pretty good. I managed to read it in one day, which goes to show that it kept me in suspense. This author is one to be watching POSTED AT WEDNESDAY, MARCH 10, 2010 1748 COMMENTS Couldn't put it down. The Help This is a must read. For a not too often reader, I couldn't put this book down.
Very well written. Hope she writes some more books since this is her first one. POSTED AT TUESDAY, MARCH 09, 2010 76 COMMENTS 90% A Bride Most Begrudging Am always excited to come across a free download, because it usually means I've found a new author whose follow-up books I'll purchase. Unfortunately, after reading "A Bride Most Begrudging," I'd be afraid to buy future Gist books in case they end the same way. For the first 90% of the novel, Gist created enchanting and believable characters, and made the readers care. Unfortunately, without giving away too much, the last 10% takes the tragedy of American settlers too seriously. I've looked up to see if Gist has written a follow-up novel, in hopes that more storylines get tied together, and from what I've seen it doesn't look like it. POSTED AT TUESDAY, MARCH 09, 2010 296 COMMENTS Love this series Dead Witch Walking (The Hollows, Book 1) I got hooked from the beginning. This series is an action packed romance with a fabulous butt kicking witch. What else could you ask for? POSTED AT WEDNESDAY, MARCH 10, 2010 534 COMMENTS A terrific thriller, with unexpected twists... Shutter Island I saw the reviews for the movie, and I never like to see a movie like that without reading the book first because I am deaf. Usually the movies don't do justice to the book, though I think this one will. But this was a great book. The writing was taut. No unnecessary writing by the author here. I hate it when authors keep winding the story on and on, adding things that don't need to be added. Lehane writes the bare minimum. That doesn't mean he can't give good descriptions, he does give very good characterization and colorization of the story, he just doesn't waste words, which I like in my authors. It's been a while since I've had a fiction writer whose work I've enjoyed this much. I'm not that crazy about the 'f' word used that much, but given the genre and the military/cop background, it's understandable.
Not going to talk about the plotline at all because don't want to spoil any of it for other readers except to say, it really does not take you in any direction you are expecting... POSTED AT MONDAY, MARCH 08, 2010 13 COMMENTS Not what I expected Booth's Sister Though billed as historical fiction this was seriously lacking any historical relevance. I kept reading hoping it would get better but instead it got more fantastical. The plot revolves largely around the Booth family's acting and dysfunction and is heavy on quotes from plays. I was hoping to get some sort of biography on Asia Booth, but this book did not deliver. I know nothing more about Asia Booth than I did when I first sat down to read this. POSTED AT TUESDAY, MARCH 09, 2010 14 COMMENTS Super read Operation Sheba Loved this book, full of suspense and even a little romance, Misty Evans outdid herself, the action packed story kept me turning the pages long after I should have been asleep.
Hope there is a followup on this story. POSTED AT MONDAY, MARCH 08, 2010 139 COMMENTS Best Bet for understanding American History A Patriot's History of the United States: From Columbus's Great Discovery to the War on Terror My first thought, is this a review link or a political blog? It amazes me how the liberals hate to have their opinions confused with facts. All, those socialist and marxist that rated this book a one star, did so because they hated the way the book presented facts with references and foot notes that do not support their anti American campaign. Here is a question for all you liberal socialist: What county is better than the U.S. that is socialist or Marxist. Think of the answer to yourself - got it- good, now go move there and get the hell out of America if you hate it so much. Good by and good riddance. Now as for the book itself. If you are interested in learning what they probably never taught you in school then I suggest this book, so you have a clear understanding of how we got here and what we need to do as Americans to keep this country great. The book states facts with plenty of footnotes and references, does not present opinions like the liberal communist love to use as talking points. If you are truly interested in the history of this country read this book. If you want to hear the same song over and over and over, watch Katie Couric or MSNBC and get your talking points so you can gel your uniformed opinions that you can regurgitate over your double soy milk latte with your comrades. POSTED AT MONDAY, MARCH 08, 2010 871 COMMENTS Great read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Vintage) Finally I was able to land my hands on a good thriller and once I finished this book I bought its sequel (girl who played with fire). Full credits to the author. I am taking away one star because at times it gets verbose (so you need to be know how to skim) and that the last 50 pages of the book are really a stretch since the mystery was already solved. 1 - 2726897 |
